Hi Emily

Dear Emily,

You’re probably not accustom to receiving a random seed packet with a website attached. At least we hope you haven’t, because we were going for originality.

We hope you had a great trip to LA and where able to get some inspiration and clarity around how you want your career to evolve into. You’ve put in a ton of hard work and have created a life that most never will, which is why it is exciting to hear about what will come next.

This has been a year of introspection and self-awareness for us. It was at the beginning of the year when we faced the hard truth that we had no connection with the company we had built and were not making the impact that we had envisioned. We knew we needed to make a change.

We started off by getting out of a partnership and telling the 20 agents in our office we were not going to run independent real estate agents any longer. We then turned our sights to our juggernaut of a property management company.

With several hundred properties under management, there was never a time when we didn’t have bonfires raging—I guess that is what you invite into your life when you are the intermediary between peoples’ housing, other peoples’ retirement assets, real property, and frenzied local politics.

With a smaller team and less chaos after selling that division of the company, our focus is clearer than ever: We want to use real estate as a catalyst for sustainable change.

From our work around the globe on international development projects we know that the best way to build community and begin a dialogue is to break bread with people. We are also firm believers that a sustainable future is a flavorful future. That’s why we have decided to partner with creative local chefs and winemakers to host intimate dinner experiences.

To celebrate the changing of seasons we have partnered with two of our favorite chefs in Portland—Mona and Jaret from Tournant. We are inviting a guest list of folks from around the Pacific Northwest—some that are old friends and some that we don’t know personally but greatly admire their work. That’s why we want to extend the invitation to you as well. It’d great if you could make it.

We hope to see you there!

Kind Regards,

Neal & Alissa Collins

PS - Those sunflower seeds you received came from our garden this year. Plant them in the late spring, add water and enjoy!
